Outline

Our great communities of the past have been built within physical spaces, and where great architects such as James Craig have built a lasting legacy for our cities. In the 21st Century, though, our new communities are being built within virtual infrastructures, and were we have an opportunity to support both economic and societal developments. The cities and countries that thus move the fastest will benefit most, but those who do not, will fail to provide full benefits to their citizens. This talk looks at how we can build new worlds within our cities, and where citizens can play an active part. It will outline how trust and engagement can be increased though cryptography and Blockchain methods, and how we can scale into the future. The talk will also outline Bill’s vision for the building of a world-leading infrastructure within Edinburgh, and how it could become one of the smartest cities in the world, and how strong leadership and direction is required to allow it to happen. While there is a focus on Edinburgh, the talk will outline how every city can take advantage of creating a more trusted world.

Along the way there will be many practical demos on how we can enhance trust, while protecting the rights of the citizen. While cryptography principles will be discussed, there is no assumption of knowledge within the area, and the presentation will present related principles within an engagement and understandable way.
