Aim and Scope of Conference

Date: Wednesday 2 November 2021

Venue: Alloa, United Kingdom | Tulliallan Castle (Prov)

This conference brings together the GCHQ-accredited universities for MSc programmes in Cyber Security, including University of London (Royal Holloway), University of Southampton, University of York, University of Surrey, University of Birmingham, Edinburgh Napier University, Lancaster University, University of Oxford, University of Warwick and Cranfield University, in order to discuss some of the key challenges with training, education and skills development in Cyber Security.

Key focal areas are:

  • Education and Training within Cyber Education.
  • Gamification and Virtualisation of Cyber Security Training.
  • Capture The Flag activities/Red v Blue.
  • Digital Forensics Training.
  • Security Analytics and Risk Analysis.
  • Cybercrime Risks, Malware Analysis/Detection and Fraud.
  • Law Enforcement Training and Academic Study.
  • Engaging with schools and colleges, and STEM integration.

There was a special focus on key areas such as the skills gap in cyber education, law enforcement training, and in the provision of a range of training infrastructures, and their integration into formal academic infrastructures.

Organisation

The conference is a collaboration between the GCHQ-accredited universities for their MSc programmes: University of London (Royal Holloway), University of Surrey, University of Southampton, University of York, University of Birmingham, Edinburgh Napier University, Lancaster University, University of Warwick, University of Oxford, and Cranfield University, along with Police Scotland and GCHQ. It also integrates with HEA funded work into Cyber Security education.
