Christmas Cyber and STEM Event for P7 Girls

ChristmasThe Cyber Academy is hosting the SMART STEM Christmas Event for Primary 7 girls at Edinburgh Napier University’s Glassroom, Merchiston Campus, EH10 5DT.

This event aims to engage young girls in Cyber, IT and other STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and to inspire them to become the great thinkers and creators of tomorrow.

They will experience fun interactive workshops and hear stories from inspiring women speakers who have made their journey through STEM. We have confirmed sessions using Lego, the School of Computing Games Laboratory, and an interactive lecture from Professor Bill Buchanan.

Confirmed exhibitors include Santa’s Optimisation, Pop Video, Sick Aliens and many more things.

kirstyKirsty Mitchell is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Digital Connextions Limited. Her companies digital analytics and data visualisation platform is one of Scotland’s emerging progressive high growth digital companies to watch. With over fifteen years teaching experience from primary to tertiary education and International experience in Public, Health and Social Education, Kirsty has a proven track record of educational excellence. With a background in sales, account management and recruitment, Kirsty and her team are changing the way people identify their skills and discover relevant and desirable jobs.

emma-hart-1010041Professor Emma Hart. Emma gained a 1st Class Honours Degree in Chemistry from the University of Oxford, followed by an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh. Her PhD, also from the University of Edinburgh, explored the use of immunology as an inspiration for computing, examining a range of techniques applied to optimisation and data classification problems.  She moved to Edinburgh Napier University in 2000 as a lecturer, and was promoted to a Chair in 2008 in Natural Computation. She continues to research in the area of developing novel bio-inspired techniques for solving a range of real-world optimisation and classification problems, as well as exploring  the fundamental properties of immune-inspired computing through modelling and simulation.
